Network publishes Phase 1 Innovation Report to celebrate resounding successes over the past five years

Today is a momentous day for the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network.

By the end of the day, Phase 1 of the Network will officially come to a close, giving way to a short transition period that will end with the official launch of Phase 2 this summer. This new phase will usher in an even bolder and more ambitious series of goals to provide compelling evidence to accelerate adoption of precision oncology into clinical practice.

We’re very excited to share more information on that very soon, but in the meantime, let’s take a moment to focus on today’s milestone.

Phase 1 Achievements

Phase 1 of the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network has been a resounding success. Since operations officially began in 2021, we have:

United more than 1,300 patients, researchers, clinicians, administrators and donors from over 100 institutions across the country to form the Team Canada of Cancer Research...

Created Canada’s largest and most complete cancer case resource...

Funded impactful cancer research across the country...

Elevated the voice of patients in research...

And helped bring precision oncology to more Canadians!

If I had to encapsulate what we’ve achieved into one word, it’s BUILD.

Over the last five years, we built a national network, we built trust and we built one of the most comprehensive cancer data resources in the world. In a Canadian first, we also built a unified national strategy – and the accompanying infrastructure – needed to accelerate precision oncology across the country.

These incredible achievements belong to all of you! Thanks to your dedication and hard work and your willingness to work together like never before, we have built the foundations of a network that will drive impact for years to come.

We could not be more grateful to all of you for helping us achieve these incredible milestones and know that together we will continue to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients throughout Canada.

Introducing our Phase 1 Innovation Report

To celebrate the conclusion of this phase, we are excited to share our Phase 1 Innovation Report, which captures the progress we have made together and the impact we are already seeing across the country. From advancing cutting-edge research to expanding access to precision oncology, this report reflects what is possible when we work together with common goals and resources. It will be a live and evolving document, one which we’ll update in the coming weeks and months as more Phase 1 achievements come to light!

Please read the report, explore the stories, recognize the achievements and lessons that marked the past five years and get a taste of our path forward. We'd also love you to spread the reach of this report on social media, and email it to your colleagues, friends and family members using the sharing tips below.

Looking ahead

In the coming days, you will learn more about Phase 2 of the Network, which will not only build on this extraordinary foundation, but will also expand our reach, increase cost-effectiveness and accelerate the translation of research into real-world benefits for patients across Canada.

Forty-six years ago, Terry Fox pushed us to dream of a world where the suffering caused by cancer was a thing of the past. There is still much work to do to make his vision a reality. But if Phase 1 has shown us anything, it is that when we come together with a shared purpose, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

In 1980, Terry Fox started a marathon against cancer. Together, we can FINISH IT.
